PLAYGROUND CONFLICT MANAGERS (PCM)

The Playground Conflict Managers (PCM) Program is a component of our Full Schools Program.  We do not encourage you to implement this program if you are not a part of one of our full school programs.  The Playground Conflict Manager program reinforces the basics of Conflict and Anger Management.  For a Playground Conflict Manager Program to be successful, the school must have a common language, modeling and practices implemented at their school.

How does PCM Program work:

  • The School is involved in the Full School Program
  • Choose the option of implementing the PCM Program
  • 30 – 40 students are selected from multiple grades to be trained as Playground Conflict Managers.
    • These students are selected for their leadership skills. Examples include negative leaders who may be causing trouble or less cooperative with “good fighting skills”, or positive leaders who are “A students”, or are respected by other groups of kids.
    • We recommend that students work in pairs of positive and negative leaders so they influence each other to empower others with positive conflict management skills.
    • These students are trained by TCC staff in how to recognize what a leader is, what a leader is not, to recognize physical, verbal and emotional violence.
    • Students Practice in role plays solving typical playground conflicts- such as friends arguing, following rules, etc.
    • The are observed by Conflict Center Staff to be sure they are practicing their skills.
  • All Classrooms in the school are introduced to the concepts of Playground Conflict Management.  It is necessary to have an onsite school coordinate to support and schedule the program.
