PROGRAMS FOR Interns
Internship Program Overview
The Conflict Center offers a wide variety of direct client service hours and hands-on non-profit management experiences to fit the needs of many different educational programs. We offer a range of unpaid internships throughout the year that can be individually tailored to meet each student’s needs and areas of interest. The following is a sample of the opportunities that students can select to meet their internship requirements. Students may focus on one area or combine multiple focus areas to create a unique and fulfilling internship experience.
Youth and/or Adult Programs
This opportunity involves direct experience in classroom instruction and group facilitation with youth and/or adults. Interns interested in teaching will begin participate in a training program to become familiar with conflict resolution strategies and social emotional learning theory, concepts and practice.
Requirements:
- Attend and participate in a 6-week Adult Anger Management Class
- Attend the 16-hour Train the Trainer Workshop
- Commitment to minimum of 2 semesters for approximately 100 hours.

School Programs
Interns working with our school program are involved in creating and organizing specific lesson plans for teachers based on a restorative justice curriculum and coordinating and facilitating restorative justice circles. This program includes participation in instructional and behavioral activities i.e. model teaching, class projects and faculty training. Interns provide support to the Reading for Peace and Playground Conflict Management Program.
Requirements:
- Attend and participate in a 6-week Adult Anger Management Class
- Attend the 16-hour Train the Trainer Workshop
- Commit to minimum of 2 semesters for
approximately 136 hours
Research/Program Evaluation
Research and evaluation is an integral part of improving our programs, measuring client impact and informing our staff of the latest research. Students will gain experience in data analysis, reflective practice and researching current trends. Additionally interns will utilize writing skills to summarize current trends in the following areas: conflict education, skill building, conflict resolution, alternative dispute resolution, restorative justice, conflict transformation, non-violent communication, anger management critical decision making, and male vs. female specific challenges and learning styles.
Special Events and Fundraising
There are numerous opportunities for interns to assist with planning and coordination of special events and other fundraising activities held throughout the year. Interns participate on event planning committees and provide assistance on the day of the event.
Fundraising and Development
Intern grant writers search for new sources of funding and write applications for grant funding. Strong written communication and analytical skills are required.
Marketing and Communications
Interns interested in marketing and communications in the nonprofit sector can participate in projects including market research, writing articles for our e-newsletter or blog, designing promotional material and other miscellaneous activities.
Administrative and Special Projects
If you prefer to work behind the scenes there are numerous opportunities and projects available. Occasionally there are opportunities for interns to participate in the development of curriculum and on-line learning materials.
Supervision: Provided by The Conflict Center Staff.
Requirements: All internships require a minimum of 100 hours unless otherwise indicated.
