Several research organizations identify and evaluate the effectiveness of peacemaking / violence prevention programs. They include:
Programs that have been demonstrated to be the most effective in preventing or reducing levels of violence are identified. Although each evaluating organization has its own nomenclature, they generally classify the top programs as "Model" or "Exemplary" or "Proven" or "Blueprints Model" programs. CSVP evaluated over 600 "programs" dealing with violence prevention and identified 11 prevention and intervention programs that meet a strict scientific standard of program effectiveness. These 11 Blueprints Model Programs, have been effective in reducing adolescent violent crime, aggression, delinquency, and substance abuse. Another 21 programs were identified as Blueprints Promising Programs. The Promising Practices Network also evaluated several hundred programs and identified over 30 Programs related to Healthy and Safe Children. The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration also evaluated numerous intervention programs and identifed 14 Model Programs that contributed to the reduction of violence. The Strengthening America's Families: Effective Family Programs for Prevention of Delinquency project began in 1989 and continued through 1999 when their last list was published. It identified 35 effective programs of which 14 are considered Exemplary Programs. We have consolidated the results of the evaluation organizations as shown in the Violence Prevention / Reduction Program Composite Table. The Composite Table lists 31 "Model/Exemplary" intervention programs considered "Best Practices" in the Peacemaking area. The Goals and Objectives of these Model/Exemplary Programs vary significantly as does their Client Focus. For example, some of the Model Program were designed for a specific age range, ethnicity, economic status, parental status, etc. The Conflict Center classes are aligned to these "Model/Exemplary" Programs as illustrated in the Violence Prevention / Reduction Program Composite Table to help assure our training is effective in reducing levels of violence.
