Volunteer Opportunities

The key focus of The Conflict Center is promoting peace and reducing violence in our communities. We have a highly skilled team of professionals who teach conflict management, emotional intelligence, critical decision making and anger management skills. Our organization works with children, youth and adults in classroom, business and workshop settings that emphasize skill building and communication through experiential learning. Volunteers are a vital part of our team and involved is many aspects of our organization.

The Conflict Center offers a variety of possibilities whether you’re looking for a one-time opportunity or a long-term assignment. The number of hours you spend daily, weekly or monthly depends upon the specific volunteer role you select.

Determining Your Role
It is important that you enjoy your volunteer service and that you have the time to fulfill your commitment. Ask yourself these questions:
• How much time would I like to commit to volunteering?
• Do I want a short-term, long-term or ongoing regular assignment?
• What talents or skills do I offer?
• What do I want to get out of my involvement?
• What type of service do I want to do?
• Do I want to work alone or in a group?

Volunteer Opportunities

Reading for Peace
If you enjoy elementary aged children and good children’s literature, this is the program for you. “Reading for Peace” volunteers meet on a weekly basis to read to children in the Denver Metro area schools. The books are selected to reinforce the skills that the classroom teacher is teaching to the children. This is a fun, positive interactive time for children to have adult attention and learn how to apply conflict and anger management skills.

Youth/Adult Program Assistant
Are you interested in teaching conflict and anger management skills to youth and/or adults? If you have some basic teaching/training experience and show dedication, commitment, reliability and passion we are looking for individuals who are willing to commit at least 1 year or more to this work. Our classes are held between 5:00 pm and 7:00 pm weekdays. We require completion of a 16-hour Train the Trainer workshop and time dedicated to classroom observation and co-teaching with a trained instructor before teaching alone.

Administrative and Special Projects
If your preference is working behind the scenes there are numerous opportunities and projects available. Clerical, computer/internet services, data entry, website services and library assistance are just some of the roles filled by volunteers.

Research Assistant
If you are interested in research and evaluation we need individuals to explore the latest research and trends in the field of conflict education, conflict resolution, alternative dispute resolution, restorative justice and non-violent communication. This area requires advanced skills in integrated Microsoft applications.

Special Events and Fundraising
We need people to assist with planning and coordination of special events and other fundraising activities held throughout the year. Volunteers participate on event planning and fundraising committees or assist with grant writing and research projects related to fund development.

Marketing and Communications
Based on the needs within the marketing department we utilize volunteers for market research, writing articles for our e-newsletter and miscellaneous projects.
