PEACE DAY VOLUNTEER

Purpose:

  • To help The Conflict Center staff conduct Peace Days in Elementary Schools
  • To teach peacemaking through arts & crafts activities

Activities:

  • Teaching nonviolent communication & good listening skills by making talking sticks
  • Teaching healthy limits & boundaries by creating door knockers
  • Teaching cooperation instead of competition through games
  • Teaching how to live peacefully in your community through art work
  • Teaching how to encourage one another by making love notes
  • Teaching problem solving and making good choices by making decision wheels
  • Teaching the power of positive self-talk by creating the flower/tree within
  • Teaching strategies to dealing with conflict through puppets & storytelling
  • And more!......

Qualifications:

  • Must enjoy actively working with children grades K - 5.
  • Must have a willingness to learn and promote conflict management skills.

Training:

  • One two-hour training session with Conflict Center staff.
  • Two two-hour conflict and anger management workshops are recommended for all volunteers.

Time Frame:

  • Peace Days are scheduled on weekdays, usually 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.;
  • some include an evening segment.
  • Volunteers may choose to commit a full-day, half-day or evening segment.
  • Denver metro area elementary schools.

Supervision:

  • TCC program staff
