Grants Awarded: Anshchutz, Denver, McCormick and More
By Toini Morgan

Strengthening Neighborhoods, The Denver Foundation’s grassroots neighborhood development program awarded a $1,700 grant to The Conflict Center. This money will be used to support the 10th Annual Garden Tour. For more information on this year’s Enchanted Gardens of Northwest Denver tour, please see the articles in this newsletter.

Denver Post Season to Share, a McCormick Foundation Fund, awarded The Conflict Center $30,000, which will be used for The Conflict Center’s School Program. The Conflict Center is among 74 local nonprofits honored this year with grants totaling $2,532,000. These funds were raised by Denver Post readers as well as community and corporate donors, with each dollar raised being matched at 50 cents on the dollar by the McCormick Foundation. All administrative and promotional costs are paid by The Denver Post and the McCormick Foundation, allowing 100 percent of the donations to go directly toward charitable organizations such as The Conflict Center.

The Anshchutz Family Foundation awarded a $5,000 grant toward The Conflict Center’s general operating cost. These funds will be used primarily for School Programs as well as for services for low-income families and individuals.

The Denver Foundation has chosen The Conflict Center to receive a grant of $7,000 for each of two years, which will allow The Conflict Center to participate as one of the ten agencies in the Denver Foundations Inclusivity Initiative. Through this initiative, The Conflict Center is working to assure that the violence prevention services provided to youth, families, schools, organizations and communities throughout the metro area are inclusive and culturally appropriate to diverse population's.

A requirement of the Inclusivity Initiative is that $3,000 of those funds must be matched. The Loretto Community Special Needs Committee graciously provided these funds to be used toward the Inclusivity Initiative.

The Conflict Center would like to thank its recent donors for their generous contributions. Following is a list of the grants we have received this quarter, along with descriptions of how The Conflict Center will use the funds to continue our work of promoting peacemaking in our community.

The Gay & Lesbian Fund for Colorado awarded The Conflict Center a grant of $5,000, of which $2,500 is a challenge grant requiring a dollar for dollar match from new donors, or from donations from current donors. This is a great opportunity for new donors! If you haven’t donated to The Conflict Center in the past, donate now and your contribution will be matched dollar for dollar through this grand challenge match. If you are a current donor, your increased donations is also eligible for this dollar for dollar match.

Be sure to specify on the notes section of your check or one time gift that it is for the Gay & Lesbian Fund Colorado Challenge Grant Match.
