When most of us think of global peace-making, we think of high-level politicians in back rooms; the UN Secretary-General flying in for a meeting; our president luring opposing parties to Camp David. Perhaps, if we are a bit more into people outside of the government making a difference in the world, we think of Gandhi, Martin Luther King, or the Dalai Lama. What we don’t usually think of is ordinary people from Denver or other cities in the US, deciding to get involved in a conflict halfway across the world, and actually making a difference. Read More

Promoting Peace Through Play

More and more families are turning to “family game night” as a way for parents to be in tune with their children and know what’s going on in their lives. However, as the kids get older and game night becomes an old routine, parents can find their creativity being stretched to find new entertainments that keep their families together and interested.

Adolfo Perez Esquivel at Foster Elementary
      

The Foster Elementary school gym was packed with kids and adults. Adolfo Perez Esquivel was visiting in support of PeaceJam, an organization that brings Nobel Peace laureates to youth to tell their stories of peace building and encourage youth to find ways to bring peace into their neighborhoods. The kids welcomed him, speaking both English and Spanish.

Update on Social Norming at NHS:
North High Pride

When reporters came to the Community Open House at North on February 13th, they seemed to have missed the excitement on the students’ faces. Articles spoke of the school as a “low” functioning school and yet missed all the encouraging student projects and activities. How do we only rate schools’ based on test scores?! Read More

Update on Reading For Peace

We have had a wonderful year reading so far. We’ve been in 5 different elementary schools around the metro area—Edgewater, St. Rose, Russell, Foster, and Harrington. We will finish up the school year with Oakland and Fallis in east Denver. Read More
