Center Announces On October 25, 2007 The Conflict Center will present its annual Ambassador of Peace Award to Reverend Leon Kelly, Founder and Executive Director of Open Door Youth Gang Alternatives. The Open Door program provides after school activities for elementary age children who might not otherwise find this kind of help. In an average year, Reverend Kelly and a small staff will provide a wide range of services to 900 youth. In addition to this program, Leon Kelly offers gang education to schools, other non-profit agencies, law enforcement and civic groups. He is there to offer support for families in tragic times. Reverend Kelly has received recognition for his work from many community leaders. He was the recipient of the “9 Who Cares” award from KUSA 9 News, the “Commitment to Excellence” award from Manual High School, the “Liberty Bell Award” from the Denver Bar Association, and the El Pomar Award of Excellence. The Ambassador of Peace Award is the major fund raising event of the year for The Conflict Center. This prestigious award provides a wonderful opportunity to recognize those who have made significant contributions to the cause of peace and the reduction of violence. Reverend Leon Kelly is a worthy Ambassador of Peace. This year’s award will be presented Thursday, October 25, 2007 from 6:00-9:00 p.m. at the Doubletree Hotel Stapleton.
