Challenging Times

As 2009 begins, it is apparent that our economy is in a challenging era. The non-profit sector is being impacted and experts in the field have hosted numerous gatherings to learn about managing in “challenging times”. While we do not in any way wish to minimize the pain and suffering of those that have been negatively impacted by the many problems associated with our current financial conditions, we think it is equally important to look at the opportunities that such times offer.

At The Conflict Center we promote that conflict and crisis can – and should – lead to creative solutions. We hope that this current challenging time might be an opportunity to discover new options for how we organize ourselves and our economy. Some have suggested that we are experiencing and undergoing a paradigm change; that one reality is dying and that a new one is being birthed. This would certainly account for and explain much of the pain and grief that we are experiencing. But also that there is much hope for a brighter future once we weather the uncertainties.

While we do not claim to have answers or solutions, we would like to believe that we are open to discovering how we can create an economic reality that is sustainable, equitable and productive while not destroying our planet and our fellow human and other animal cohabitants. We hope you will participate in searching for solutions wherever life currently has you.  At The Conflict Center we are optimistic that situations will work out for the best but only if we all roll up our sleeves and create the reality that we want.  We hope you are game to participate.
