What was the best vacation you’ve ever had? When my sons were young we stayed on the Queen Mary in Long Beach and enjoyed Disneyland and the other tourist traps in Southern CA. After that we traveled to the San Francisco area and visited a long time friend and his family and our children got to meet for the first time. It couldn’t have been more perfect.
If you could have a luncheon with any three people (real or fictitious, from any time period, dead or alive), which three people would you choose and why? Arnold Palmer (the golfer). He has been a hero of mine for over forty years. John Wayne, he also was a hero to me and an inspirational patriot. Pope John Paul and although I’m not Catholic, there was such a peace and grace about him when he was here for World Youth Day ( I believe it was). I was fascinated by him. If I could sneak in a fourth, it would be Mother Theresa, as she was truly a remarkable woman. How’s that for a diverse group?
What is your most cherished childhood memory? Spending time at my grandparents in Michigan. There were creeks, lakes and woods on their property and the adventures had no limits. My imagination could run wild and there was always something wonderful to explore. I always hated to leave to go home.
If given complete freedom to start a fresh, what profession would you choose and why?I’m sure that I would be a teacher. I coached youth in sports for years, but now that I have taught classes here, I would have liked to have spent more time helping youth.
Occupations you wanted to be when you were a kid? Professional baseball player, fireman, teacher and architect.
