Volunteer FOR THE CONFLICT CENTER

The mission of The Conflict Center is to reduce levels of physical, verbal and emotional violence by teaching and applying skills to help people in diverse communities manage everyday conflicts nonviolently.  A highly skilled team of professionals teach conflict management, emotional intelligence, critical decision making and anger management.  Trainers work with children, youth and adults in classroom, business and workshop settings that emphasize skill building and communication through experiential learning.  Volunteers are a vital part of our team and are involved in every aspect of the organization.

The Conflict Center offers a variety of possibilities for volunteers looking for a one-time opportunity or a long-term assignment.  The number of hours spent daily, weekly or monthly depends upon the specific volunteer role selected.  The Conflict Center provides hands-on training, orientation and support, plus a fun and positive work environment!

 Determining Your Role

It is important that each individual enjoy their volunteer service and has the time to fulfill their commitment.  Consider these questions:

  • How much time would I like to commit to volunteering?
  • Do I want a short-term, long-term or ongoing
    regular assignment?
  • What talents or skills do I offer?
  • What do I want to get out of my involvement?
  • What type of service do I want to do?
  • Do I want to work alone or in a group?

Volunteer Opportunities

Reading for Peace
For volunteers who enjoy elementary aged children and good children’s literature, this is the ideal program.  “Reading for Peace” volunteers meet on a weekly basis to read to children in the Denver Metro area schools.  The books are selected to reinforce the skills that the classroom teacher is teaching to the children.  This is a fun, positive interactive time for children to have adult attention and learn how to apply conflict and anger management skills.  For more information, see Reading for Peace.

Youth/Adult Program Assistant
This opportunity is for those interested in teaching conflict and anger management skills to youth and/or adults. For those who have some basic teaching/training experience or want to gain this skill and show dedication, commitment, reliability and passion this is a unique and exciting opportunity. The Conflict Center needs individuals who are willing to commit at least 1 year or more to this work.  For more program information, see Programs for Adults or Programs for Youth.   For more information on training requirements, see Instructor Training Program.

Administrative and Special Projects
For those who prefer to work behind the scenes there are numerous opportunities and projects available.  Clerical, computer/internet services, data entry, website services and library assistance are just some of the many roles filled by volunteers.

Special Events and Fundraising
The Conflict Center needs people to assist with planning and coordination of special events and other fundraising activities held throughout the year.  Volunteers participate on event planning committees, and provide assistance on the day of the event.  For more specific information, see Special Events

Fundraising
Volunteer grant writers search for new sources of funding and write applications for grant funding.  Strong written communication and analytical skills are required.

Marketing and Communications
The Conflict Center enlists volunteers to support the marketing staff by performing market research, writing articles for our e-newsletter or blog, designing promotional material and other miscellaneous project.
